American Graffiti can be judged by following criteria:

a) year of realisation
b) country of realisation
c) quality of letters, characters and composition of all parts of the painting
d) colors
e) spot of realisation
f) amount of innovation
g) own style

It is extremely important to judge all the points mentioned above as a judgement based
only on a part of them is not very valuable. For example: nowadays American Graffiti have
reached a quite high standard. In its beginnings though (United States: in the seventies,
Europe: in the mid-eighties) there was a lot of evolution-work left to be done.

So: if you see a picture of a graffiti on this website that you find not so pleasing ask your-
self first: in which year and country has it been realised? If you would see the piece as a
black and white sketch, what would be the aesthetic quality of the drawing and composition?
Is there a harmony among the colors? How dangerous was the spot of realisation and
thus the risc of getting caught? Which amount of new, fresh ideas are expressed in
the painting. Did its creator dare to come up with new ideas contributing to the overall
evolution of American Graffiti? Carries the piece of art an own, personal style, a kind
of personal signature indicating the personality and experience of the writer?

You will see that after these questions you suddenly start to judge the paintings in a different way, giving some of them much more respect than you did before.

Dig it. Peace.
